52nd FEIBP Congress in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg/Germany from September 16-18,  2010

Annual Meeting of the European Brushware Association

Flyer FEIBP 2010Not only the professional and perfect organisation by the German Brush Manufacturers Association had contributed to the success at this year's congress. The very relaxed and overall high spirits among the delegates, who had come from all over Europe and a few guests from the USA and Algeria to attend this popular event, was a good reason, too.

At last year’s FEIBP-Congress in Bristol/UK the delegates already set the course for a common spirit of optimism as a clear signal. You could say under the motto "Forward" it was a wake-up call in a difficult economic situation. This positive trend continued in 2010 and in this context the representatives of the FEIBP-European Brushware Federation clearly underlined that their organisation is a motor for the brush industry. In his speech, Mark Godfrey, President of the ABMA-American Brush Manufacturers Association, compared the “move forward” of the “cross-border cooperation between the two brush associations” with strong roots of a “sequoia-tree”.

The delegates listened with great interest to the excellent lectures of guest speakers: Gigi Haug of Haug Bürsten, George Stocker and Thilo Grove and representatives from the ranks of the brush and paintbrush industry: Reinhold Hörz of DKSH Brush and Apparel Ltd, Dr. Ulrich Rietdorf of Friedrich Platt GmbH, FEIBP secretary Fons Ceeleart who represented Mark Samuel, Dr. Jürgen Idzko of Hahl Filaments GmbH and Florian Kisling of Pedex GmbH reported on the current market situation for “bristles, vegetal fibres, fine hair and synthetic fibers”.

Many delegates such as Paggin, Pogliani, Schlesinger, Zahoransky AG, Wöhler Brush Tech, WOMA, Wistoba, Hahl Filaments GmbH, Friedrich Platt GmbH used the BRUSH FORUM to present their product range, product innovations and latest technology solutions and enjoyed the lively discussions with their colleagues which gave fresh impetus and new thinking. An absolute highlight of this year's FEIBP was the presentation of the 4th FEIBP Innovation Award.WISTOBA-Pinselfabrik won 1st prize for their “Xtreme F-Brush Set”.  Second prize went to SCHLESINGER Maschinenbau GmbH for a “Filling tool for brush making machines” and the ZAHN Pinselmanufaktur was awarded 3rd prize for their product “New Generation Quill Brush”.

Daniel Strowitzki of Messe Freiburg, informed the conference attendees on the upcoming INTERBRUSH Fair, held from May 9-11, 2012 in Freiburg.

Like previous years, the working groups “Technical Brushes”(Chair: Michael Stoddard) and “Professional Hygiene Brushes” (Chair: Philip Coward) talked in different sessions to exchange information and give new impulses to their discussions, like the question: “Could the introduction of a charta for technical brushes may be useful?”

Dr. Andrea Acquaderni, FEIBP treasurer, published the FEIBP financial report for the year 2010 and gave a forecast for the next year. The outgoing FEIBP President Henk Slettenhaar of Almelose Borstel Industrie BV, officially handed over the presidency to his successor, Pierre Simler of Nespoli France, who will control the important tasks of the FEIBP Federation for the next 2 years.

The FEIBP organisers had again put together a varied programme of guided tours for partners and other persons accompanying the delegates. For the first dinner night the FEIBP organizers had arranged an atmospheric Grand Harbour Cruise on the MS Commodore and as a culinary highlight for this year’s FEIBP event they organized a great gala dinner at the brasserie/bar DIE BANK. A former city palace, built in 1897, which once served as a bank building. After sales and modernization of the building DIE BANK bar/brasserie opened in November 2005 and went into a hip meeting place for gourmets and celebrities. Good and varied musical entertainment was provided by the live performance of the Starlettes, a beautiful and talented female singing duo from Hamburg, and the joke appearances of some comedians who had dressed as policemen, came into DIE BANK. With their many funny tricks and gimmicks they provided a lot of fun, good entertainment and lots of laughter among the guests in the restaurant.
